About

This site is a demonstration of state of the art web technology. It was created using Extensible HyperText Markup Language (XHTML) and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).

These technologies provide many benefits, including:

  • Smaller File Size

Because the presentation information is stored in a separate file, each XHTML page is significantly smaller than a traditional HTML page. Your mileage may very, but most sites can easily see a 30% file size reduction.

  • Faster Download Times

Because the presentation information is stored in a separate file, each XHTML page is significantly smaller and therefore downloads much more quickly. In addition, having presentation information in a separate file allows your browser to cache that information, so you don’t have to download it for each page you view, only once — this dramatically improves site performance.

  • Lower Bandwidth Usage

Because the presentation information is stored in a separate file, each XHTML page is significantly smaller and browsers cache the presentation information, so that it only has to be downloaded once for the entire site.

  • Better Search Engine Indexing

Because the presentation information is stored in a separate file, and because of the positioning capabilities of CSS, not only does each XHTML page contain less presentation information, but also the order of the content doesn’t have to match the order in which it’s presented. Instead of listing content from left to right, top to bottom, content may be arranged in logical order. This makes it much easier for search engines to index your site and increases your chances of high listings in search results.

  • Easier Maintainance

Because the presentation information is stored in a separate file, it’s easier to find content and modify it within each XHTML page. It’s easier to make site-wide appearance changes — you only have to modify one style sheet file. To get some idea what’s possible by simply changing a style sheet, please check out the CSS Zen Garden.

  • Increased Accessibility

Because the presentation information is stored in a separate file, and because of the positioning capabilities of CSS, not only does each XHTML page contain less presentation information, but also the order of the content doesn’t have to match the order in which it’s presented. Instead of listing content from left to right, top to bottom, content may be arranged in logical order. This greatly increases accessibility for disabled visitors to your web site. In addition, using XHTML encourages proper semantic use of header tags (which some search engines look for) and the application of accessibility features like additional navigation aids.

PLEASE NOTE:This page DOES NOT use frames, javascript, layers or tables. All of the rollover and other display effects were created with XHTML and CSS.
